These are an easy growing annual brassica.  A lot like a turnip except they take 90-110 days to mature versus around 60 for a turnip.  Rutabaga’s can grow bigger bulbs and be sweeter that turnips.  Rutabaga’s work well when planted early.  This is a more unknown brassica that is not widely used.  Give it a try and see how it compares to your turnips.

Planting:

  • Plant up to ¼” inch deep

  • Spring into late summer

  • Drill 7-9 lbs per acre

  • Broadcast 8-10 lbs per acre

  • pH: 5.5-7.0
